Comrade Julius Abure has been officially recognized as the national chairman of the Labour Party (LP).
This affirmation comes after a Court of Appeal in Benin, Edo State, ruled on a case filed against Abure and other party officials by Lucky Shaibu, a member of LP’s Ward 3 executive in Esan Northeast Local Government Area of Edo.
Justices Theresa Abadua, Fatima Akinbami, and Sybil Nwaka-Gbagi, in a unanimous decision, dismissed the appeal made by Shaibu.
The High Court of Edo State had previously ruled that one individual cannot suspend the national chairman of the Labour Party according to the party’s constitution.
The Court of Appeal upheld this decision, highlighting that it aligns with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act of 2022. The court nullified the suspension of Abure and any actions taken against him and the party based on this suspension.
In response, Abure expressed his gratitude for the court’s decision and commended his legal team for their efforts. G.C. Igbokwe, SAN, who led the legal team, described the judgment as solid and unwavering.
