Court Grants Stay Execution, Lifts Suspension of Labour Party’s Excos

In a significant victory for the Labour Party, Justice Hamza Muazu of the FCT High Court has granted a stay execution order, effectively lifting the suspension of the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, along with other key party executives.

FRESHREPORTERS reports that the ruling comes as a relief for Abure and his colleagues, who have been embroiled in a legal battle to retain their positions within the party.

The suspension of Abure, as well as the National Organising Secretary, Clement Ojukwu, and National Treasurer, Oluchi Opara, had caused a significant disruption within the Labour Party.

However, the recent court ruling has reversed the suspensions, allowing these individuals to resume their roles and responsibilities.

The legal case, brought forward by eight plaintiffs including Martins Esikpali John, Lucky Shaibu, Isah Zekeri, Omogbai Frank, Abokhaiu Aliu, Ayohkaire Lateef, John Elomah, and Dr Ayobami Arabambi, sought the removal of Abure and the three other national officers.

The plaintiffs had successfully obtained an interim injunction in April, preventing the suspended executives from representing themselves as national officers of the Labour Party.

During the court proceedings, the defendants informed the court about their pending notice of appeal at the court of appeal, adding further complexity to the legal dispute.

After carefully considering the arguments from all parties involved, Justice Hamza Muazu granted an order for a stay on the suspension, effectively putting the suspension on hold until the appeal is determined.

Friday’s ruling brings temporary relief to Acting National Chairman Lamidi Apapa, who has been facing challenges in asserting his authority over the Labour Party during Abure’s suspension.

With the lifting of the suspension, the Labour Party can now move forward with its operations under the leadership of its reinstated executives.

The court’s decision marks a significant turn of events for the Labour Party, offering hope for stability and a renewed sense of direction.

As the party regains its footing, it remains to be seen how this development will impact its internal dynamics and its broader political objectives in the coming months.
