Chelsea Completes Record Transfer Deal for Moises Caicedo

On Monday, August 14, 2023, Chelsea successfully finalized the signing of Moises Caicedo, a midfielder from Brighton.

The club from West London reportedly paid Brighton a fixed transfer fee of £100 million, with the potential to increase to £115 million including add-ons. This transaction sets a new British record for a transfer fee.

Before agreeing to Chelsea’s offer, Brighton had previously reached an agreement with Liverpool for a transfer fee of £111 million on Friday.

It’s worth noting that Moises Caicedo had initially joined Brighton in February 2021 for just £4 million.

Despite the earlier deal with Liverpool, the 21-year-old Ecuadorian midfielder expressed a strong desire to move to Chelsea. After multiple attempts were declined, Brighton eventually accepted Chelsea’s bid on Sunday night.

Caicedo has signed a lengthy eight-year contract with Chelsea, along with a one-year option that could potentially keep him at Stamford Bridge until June 30, 2032.

Brighton is expected to receive the full £100 million promptly, while the remaining £15 million is contingent on Caicedo’s appearances.

Additionally, a significant sell-on clause has been included in Moises Caicedo’s contract in favor of Brighton.

Reflecting on the transfer, Caicedo shared, “When Chelsea contacted me, I didn’t hesitate for a moment. I knew I wanted to join the club. It’s truly a dream come true, and I’m eagerly anticipating the opportunity to begin with the team.”
