Zoning Arrangements Decided as APC Fills Vacant Positions

During the 12th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and Senator Ajibola Basiru were chosen as the National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively.

With these key positions filled, the NEC also discussed a zoning arrangement for the remaining vacant positions in the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

Currently, six positions in the NWC are vacant due to various reasons, such as the passing of a member, the resignation of three officers, and the nomination of two committee members for ministerial roles.

To ensure fair representation, the NEC made important decisions on the zoning pattern. The new National Chairman’s position, which was originally from the North Central region, has now been moved to the North West. However, the Deputy National Chairman (North) and National Secretary positions will still be retained in the North East and South West, respectively.

Additionally, the APC NEC has decided to maintain the National Welfare Secretary and the National Women Leader positions in the South East and South-South regions, respectively.

To address concerns over the change in the National Chairman’s location, a compromise was reached to zone the office of the National Legal Adviser, previously held by the North West, to the North Central region.

These zoning arrangements aim to promote inclusivity and ensure that different regions have fair representation in the party’s leadership.
