You Are Not Speaker Yet, There Is Need For Better Consultations – Adamu Tells Abass As Details Of Meeting With APC NWC Emerges

• The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Adamu, emphasized the necessity for extensive consultations regarding the selection of preferred candidates for the leadership of the 10th National Assembly.

• Adamu cautioned against prematurely addressing Tajudeen Abbas as Speaker of the House of Representatives before the official inauguration and election process takes place.

• During a meeting with Abbas and a delegation at the APC’s National Secretariat, Adamu revealed that various aspirants for the speakership position sought support from him and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Adamu, stressed the importance of further consultations to determine the party’s choice of preferred candidates for the leadership positions in the 10th National Assembly.

Adamu’s remarks came to light during a meeting with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) at the APC’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

Adamu, cautioning against prematurely addressing Tajudeen Abbas as Speaker of the House of Representatives, clarified that such a designation could only be conferred once the 10th National Assembly is inaugurated, an election is conducted by the National Assembly clerk, and Abbas emerges victorious for the position.

Earlier, Abbas, alongside Benjamin Kalu, led a delegation of around 30 lawmakers to the APC’s national secretariat for a meeting with the party’s leadership.

In response, Adamu acknowledged the necessity for extensive work and consultations to ensure the success of the APC’s objectives regarding the National Assembly leadership in both Chambers.

He revealed that other aspirants for the speakership position had also sought support from him and the NWC.

Addressing the delegation, Adamu clarified, “I want to make one correction so that we will not be misrepresented.”

“A number of you have referred to Hon. Abbas as the speaker. Please, he is one of the aspirants. He will become a speaker on the day of proclamation. The laws guiding that office are very clear; he will earn that title on the day of proclamation by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the 10th National Assembly.”

“The Clerk to the National Assembly will conduct an election. There is no alternative to an election.”

“Once he emerges victorious and is sworn in by the speaker, that nomenclature becomes most appropriate. For now, continue doing your good work.”
