The police in Rivers State, in collaboration with PHALGA Security Watch and the State Neighbourhood Watch, have apprehended 12 individuals believed to be involved in online fraud, commonly referred to as Yahoo boys.

These suspects are alleged to have buried a newborn baby alive at Andoni Waterfront on Eagle Island in Port Harcourt.

Victor Ohaji, who serves as both the Chairman of PHALGA Security Watch and the Chief Security Officer of Eagle Island, received information that some Yahoo boys were engaging in shady activities at the waterfront last Wednesday.

Promptly, he assembled his team and headed to the location, but the boys had already left.

Upon closer inspection, Ohaji’s team noticed that the youths had buried something in the waterfront area. After digging up the spot, they discovered the lifeless body of a newborn baby boy.

Ohaji immediately notified both the Rivers State Neighbourhood Watch and the Station Officer of the Police Post at Eagle Island, who then informed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Azikiwe Police Division.

The collective efforts of PHALGA Security Watch, Rivers State Neighbourhood Watch, and the police were put into action to locate the suspects.

While searching Eagle Island, the joint security team spotted the suspects as they were exiting a hotel.

The suspects attempted to escape in different directions but were successfully apprehended by the security forces.

They were subsequently taken to the Azikiwe Police Division in Port Harcourt.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed the occurrence of the incident.

Meanwhile, Prince Wiro, a human rights advocate and National Coordinator of the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, has strongly condemned the heinous act.

He characterized the incident as an extreme display of cruelty and inhumanity.

Wiro commended the security operatives for their swift action and urged the police to extend their investigation to track down any suspects who managed to flee.
