In a swift operation, the Anambra State Police Command’s Surveillance Operatives apprehended a lone gunman at a popular hotel in Awka on 20th July 2023.
According to the spokesperson for the command, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, the vigilant Surveillance Operatives noticed the suspicious behavior of a man lurking around the hotel premises.
Acting promptly, they approached the individual and conducted a thorough search, which led to the discovery of an English-made pistol and three rounds of live ammunition in his possession.
The suspect identified himself as Akuchieani Echezona, a male resident of Ifite Awka. He was immediately disarmed, arrested, and taken into custody.
In response to the alarming incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Awka to take charge of the case.
The investigation will focus on tracing the origin of the weapon and ascertaining the gunman’s intentions for carrying it into the hotel premises.
Authorities are determined to get to the bottom of the matter and ensure the safety and security of the public. Once the investigation is complete, the suspect will face charges in court, police statement said. (CONTINUE READING HERE)
