LP Faction Responds to Court Ruling on Chairmanship: ‘We Are Aware of Peter Obi, Abure’s Potential To Influence Court Ruling’

The Lamidi Apapa faction of the Labour Party (LP) has issued a response following the Court of Appeal’s affirmation of Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the party.

As previously reported, the Court of Appeal in Benin City, Edo State, dismissed a case filed by Lucky Shaibu against Abure and five others.

In reaction, the Apapa faction highlighted its awareness of the potential influence that the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Julius Abure might exert on the court ruling.

The faction’s spokesperson, Abayomi Arabambi, emphasized that the restraining order from the Abuja High Court, recognizing Apapa as the acting national chairman, remains in effect.

Arabambi stated, “Our attention has been drawn to misleading information spread by certain individuals loyal to the police-indicted former National Chairman of the Labour Party, Mr. Julius Abure. The Labour Party wishes to clarify that our appeal to the court pertains to his suspension as a member under Article 19(2)A of our party constitution, a point that the three justices of the Court of Appeal did not acknowledge or investigate.

“We are well aware of the potential ability of Peter Obi and Abure Julius to influence court proceedings and manipulate documents, as evidenced by the forgery incident in the Abuja FCT High Court where judges’ signatures and seals were forged by Abure Julius. He even boasted alongside Peter Obi in Lagos that he cannot be investigated or prosecuted in Nigeria, despite being indicted by the police along with three others.

“Interestingly, Abure himself has a pending appeal in the Supreme Court against these same justices, a fact that has been submitted and served to us to halt today’s judgment. Anticipating potential legal challenges, Abure has reportedly resorted to his usual tactics by involving unscrupulous elements in the Edo State High Court to manipulate the records. We are left to question whether Abure has now assumed the role of Chief Judge of Edo State, enabling him to commit crimes with impunity.

“Although the missing document in question is present in the transmitted copy held by our lawyer, and duly paid for, unfortunately, this single act of manipulation facilitated Julius Abure’s advantage in today’s Court of Appeal decision.
