Call for Strong Partnerships to Address Development Challenges – BRICS Media Forum

During the sixth BRICS Media Forum conference, leaders and delegates have emphasized the importance of forming closer ties and partnerships to achieve sustainable development both in Africa and within the BRICS community.

This plea was voiced at the commencement of a two-day event in Johannesburg, South Africa, preceding the BRICS leaders’ summit set to begin on Tuesday.

The BRICS coalition consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, but more than 40 other world leaders are anticipated to attend the summit.

Fu Hua, the Executive Chairman of the forum and President of Xinhua News Agency, delivered a keynote speech, highlighting the significance of mutual learning and collaboration in the growth of emerging nations.

He stated, “We advocate for respecting diversity, mutual learning, and the development of developing nations through shared commitment and prosperity.”

Fu Hua emphasized the value of African media leaders partnering with the forum to bolster the media sector’s development for the collective benefit of countries involved.

The conference delved into pivotal topics including the impact of digital disruption and the challenge of fake news and disinformation on ethical and unbiased journalism.

Dr. Iqbal Sueve, the Executive Chairman of Independent Media in South Africa, stressed the necessity for collaboration between Africa and BRICS nations in leveraging digital technologies to combat fake news and prepare for upcoming challenges.

Dr. Sueve remarked, “Africa must find a way to take control of its narratives. The next global battleground will be the battle for narrative dominance, and the victor will shape the world.”
