Federal Government Partners with Wema Bank to Empower 1 Million Youths in Seven States

The Federal Government of Nigeria has joined forces with Wema Bank to empower one million youths across seven states in the country.

The initiative, spearheaded by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, aims to establish micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) digital hubs in these states.

The primary goal of this partnership is to create digital job opportunities for the youth, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s vision.

The collaboration between the government and Wema Bank was reached after a meeting between the Vice President and representatives of the bank.

The project will kick off with the establishment of FGN/ALAT Digital and SkillNnovation Hub centers in Lagos and Borno States, with plans to extend the initiative to Katsina, Cross River, Anambra, Oyo, and Kano.

The strategic objectives of this program include:

  1. Empowering young entrepreneurs by providing them with tailored financial products, training, and support to build sustainable businesses and contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth.
  2. Supporting tech-savvy youths with a passion for digital innovations and technological advancements by offering them financial solutions, training, and access to strategic partnerships.
  3. Empowering young employees, especially those deployed through the NYSC (National Youth Service Corps), to become integral members of Nigeria’s workforce.

Under this initiative, one million youths will receive training in software engineering, product design, and other digital skills. Additionally, 500,000 SMEs will benefit from mentoring in business development.

The FGN/ALAT Digital and SkillNnovation Hub will serve as a centralized platform, providing cutting-edge digital skills, mentorship, and networking opportunities for tech-savvy youths and young entrepreneurs in Nigeria.

The primary focus of the government’s initiative is to promote entrepreneurship, skills development, and the integration of young employees into the workforce.

The ultimate aim is to provide one million youths with employment opportunities in the digital economy and upskill SMEs to contribute significantly to the country’s economic growth.

The training curriculum for the FGN/ALAT Digital and SkillNnovation Hub includes software engineering, product management, business analysis, cloud computing, and product design.

Meanwhile, SMEs across Nigeria will receive mentoring and upskilling from expert coaches to enhance their business growth and performance.

To facilitate this program, the federal government and Wema Bank have set aside N500 million to provide grants to SMEs and techpreneurs in a collaborative arrangement.
