A group of women in Douala, Cameroon, took matters into their own hands, reportedly assaulting a man accused of being a serial abuser of his wife.
The incident occurred in the Bojongo neighbourhood of Bonaberi. The man, locally nicknamed “Father Lion,” is said to have a long history of physically beating his spouse, with neighbours complaining of hearing her screams for months.
Two days ago, after residents once again heard the wife’s cries, a group of local women allegedly confronted the husband at his home. Circulating video footage shows the man trying to defend himself with a machete before being disarmed. The women then chased him into a nearby hut.
A community member, confirming the event, described the man as having used his wife as a “punching bag” and stated the neighbourhood’s patience had finally run out.
Witnesses said the confrontation was an impromptu act by residents who felt compelled to intervene after enduring the prolonged sounds of domestic violence. The incident has ignited considerable online debate about community-led justice and the persistent challenge of domestic abuse.
