Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has made a firm commitment that the military will relentlessly track down and bring to justice all terrorists, bandits, and those who pose threats to the nation.
Speaking in Abuja on Friday at the burial ceremony of military personnel who recently lost their lives in combat and an air crash in Niger State, Gen. Musa emphasized that the military would not stand idly by while enemies of the state continued to cause destruction and harm.
Gen. Musa reassured the terrorists that the military would pursue them relentlessly to avenge the deaths of its personnel who were killed while defending the nation.
He expressed the profound pain he felt in having to bury his officers and soldiers and acknowledged that this day marked one of the most difficult moments in a commander’s mind.
He emphasized that the sacrifices made by these fallen heroes would not be in vain and assured their families that justice would be served.
Addressing commanders and troops across Nigeria, Gen. Musa urged them to unite in seeking revenge for these fallen heroes. He made it clear that those responsible for these acts of violence would be brought to justice, and the military would ensure they never had the chance to harm others again.
Gen. Musa noted that the fallen soldiers had responded to a distress call in the Chukuba community in Niger and expressed that their courage and dedication would forever be honored.
He promised the families of the deceased that the military would stand with them in their grief and continue to offer support during this challenging time.
Gen. Musa conveyed that the fallen soldiers had given their lives to protect the peace and security of the nation and to fight against evil forces. He stated that their bravery would serve as an inspiration for others to follow.
Directing his words to the bandits, terrorists, and those involved in violence, Gen. Musa firmly declared that they would be pursued relentlessly and brought to justice, emphasizing the military’s determination to restore peace and security throughout the country.
In accordance with military tradition, the bodies of the 20 deceased personnel were laid to rest at the National Military Cemetery amidst heartrending emotions. The tragedy had unfolded as three officers and 22 soldiers were ambushed and killed in the Zungeru general area of the state. Additionally, seven soldiers were wounded in the attack.
The subsequent crash of a Nigerian Air Force helicopter while en route to evacuate the deceased and wounded troops further added to the tragedy.
