Disputed Claims: LP Faction Denies Apapa’s Chairmanship Assertion

The Julius Abure faction within the Labour Party (LP) has strongly refuted Lamidi Apapa’s assertion that the court has validated him as the legitimate National Chairman of the party.

Malam Umar Farouk, the National Secretary of the Abure faction, conveyed this message during a press conference in Abuja on Friday.

Farouk revealed that the Certified True Copy of the legal case did not involve Julius Abure, casting doubt on Apapa’s claims.

He explained that the purpose of the press conference was to address the efforts of some former party members who had rebelled against the LP and were attempting to spread misinformation about the party’s positive strides in becoming a prominent political force in Nigeria.

Highlighting the motives behind Apapa and his associates, Farouk pointed out that their actions seemed geared towards obstructing the party’s progress.

He further mentioned that these dissenters were being financially supported to distort the courts’ decisions and manipulate certain media outlets to target the party’s leadership.

Despite these endeavors, their attempts to undermine the party’s leadership had failed.

Farouk emphasized that the Court of Appeal in Benin had officially upheld Julius Abure’s position as the National Chairman of the LP.

He clarified that a recent judgment by the Court of Appeal in Owerri, sitting in Abuja, revolved around the dispute over the true LP candidate for the Imo governorship election.

This case did not challenge Abure’s chairmanship position but rather affirmed Sen. Athan Achonu as the valid nominee for the 2023 Imo governorship election.

The National Secretary further detailed that the Edo Appeal Court had already ruled that Julius Abure was the rightful chairman of the LP.

Consequently, all actions taken under his leadership, including nominating candidates for various elections, were deemed legally valid.

Farouk iterated that those dissatisfied with the Appeal Court’s verdict had the legal option to approach the Supreme Court for a review of the decision.

He emphasized that the LP aimed to clarify this course of action to counter the efforts of those seeking to disrupt the party’s progress, stressing that Sen. Athan Achonu remained the LP’s governorship candidate in Imo, as confirmed by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s publication of his name as the party’s candidate…[CONTINUE READING HERE]
