VP Shettima Attends Ouattara’s Fourth-Term Inauguration in Abidjan

Vice President Kashim Shettima represented President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of Côte d’Ivoire’s President Alassane Ouattara for a fourth term in Abidjan on Monday.

Shettima, who arrived from Abuja on Sunday, was welcomed by Ivorian Prime Minister Robert Mambe, Nigerian diplomatic officials, and other senior representatives. His delegation included ECOWAS Commission President Omar Touray, Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Abubakar Sani Bello, House of Representatives member Usman Zannah, and former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Ouattara, re-elected on October 25, 2025, will continue leading the West African nation, which maintains strong trade, security, and regional ties with Nigeria.

Shettima’s attendance reflects Nigeria’s support for constitutional governance, the rule of law, and democratic stability in the subregion, especially amid ongoing security challenges in the Sahel and Gulf of Guinea.

The Vice President is expected to engage in bilateral talks to enhance diplomatic and economic relations between both countries before returning to Nigeria after the ceremony.

The gathering of African leaders also provides an opportunity to discuss regional priorities such as economic integration, counter-terrorism, and climate resilience, in line with ECOWAS strategic goals.
