Naval Officer Enforces Ban, Orders Removal of ‘NAVY’ Sticker in Lagos

A Nigerian naval officer was filmed directing a driver to remove an unauthorized ‘NAVY’ sticker from a civilian vehicle in Lagos, in a 37-second video circulating online.

In the footage, the officer can be heard counting down from five as he instructs the motorist to peel off the sticker, despite the driver’s protest that he had committed no offense. The officer maintained that civilians are prohibited from displaying military insignia.

The Defence Headquarters banned the use of military-style stickers on private vehicles in 2024, citing increasing incidents of criminals impersonating personnel to bypass security checks. Police commands nationwide were ordered to enforce the directive.

In October 2024, the Lagos State Police Command also cautioned residents against using such stickers, emphasizing that enforcement is crucial for public safety and crime prevention.
