U.S. Congressman Riley Moore has commended the Nigerian government under President Bola Tinubu for the recent rescue of around 100 abducted Catholic school students, describing the operation as evidence of improving security responsiveness.
In a December 8 statement, Moore said, “I want to thank the Nigerian government for rescuing the 100 innocent and precious Catholic school children. This is a positive demonstration of the government’s increasing response to the security situation and shows commitment to the emergency declaration laid out by President Tinubu.”
He noted that the successful rescue reflects the impact of Nigeria’s security emergency, highlighting the swift deployment of forces to protect vulnerable groups. Moore also acknowledged strengthening counter-terrorism cooperation between Nigeria and the United States but stressed the need for sustained, tangible action: “Now, that openness has to translate to concrete action.”
The congressman’s comments come as U.S. lawmakers intensify focus on kidnappings, banditry, and religious violence in northern and central Nigeria. Nigerian authorities have portrayed the operation as proof that coordinated intelligence and decisive intervention can dismantle criminal networks without ransom payments.
