A student named Jamiu Abdulhameed from the University of Ilorin has been brought before the Kwara State Police Command on charges of alleged rape.
The police have stated that the charge falls under Section 283 of the Penal Code.
FRESHREPORTERS MEDIA learned from the First Information Report (FIR) provided by the police, the complainant (identity withheld), a resident of Sanrab area in Tanke, Ilorin, alleged that the incident occurred when she visited the suspect’s room to charge her phone.
“She sat on his (suspect’s) bed to watch a movie, and along the line, Jamiu Abdulhameed told her that he wanted to switch off his generator and asked her to help put on the torchlight which she did.
“He returned to the room, locked the door and started touching her inappropriately and eventually had sexual intercourse with her without her consent,” the sheet added.
The police indicated that a medical report from the police clinic at ‘A’ Division in Ilorin revealed that her ‘hymen had a notch measuring about 05cm’.
During the proceedings, the prosecutor, Adisa Akinjode, requested that the court remand the suspect in custody.
However, the defense counsel, Toyin Onaolapo, described the accused as a “final year student at the University of Ilorin, with just about three months remaining until his graduation.” Onaolapo urged the court to grant bail to the accused.
After deliberation, the trial magistrate, N. Ajide, ordered that the accused be remanded at the federal correctional center in Ilorin and adjourned the case to August 28th…[CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>
