The city of Nottingham was shaken by a series of horrific incidents that resulted in the tragic deaths of Barnaby Webber and Grace Kumar, both 19 years old.
Additionally, a third man in his 50s lost his life in a separate stabbing incident, and three individuals were struck by a stolen van, leaving one in critical condition.
Barnaby Webber, an amateur cricketer hailing from Taunton, was mourned by his close friends and teammates at Somerset’s Bishops Hull Cricket Club. Described as a dear friend, Barnaby’s memory will be cherished and his absence deeply felt by the cricket community.
Grace Kumar, a talented hockey player, was a well-known member of the England U16 and U18 squads. England Hockey expressed profound sorrow over the loss, stating that they were “deeply saddened” and extended their thoughts and condolences to Grace’s family, friends, teammates, and the wider hockey community during this difficult time.
The tragic events unfolded when a van, believed to be stolen from the victim of the earlier stabbing, struck three individuals waiting at a bus stop on Milton Street in Nottingham city center. While two of the victims escaped with minor injuries, one person remains in critical condition, fighting for their life in the hospital.
Law enforcement authorities have apprehended a 31-year-old suspect in connection with these incidents. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect is a migrant of West African origin, although further details have not been disclosed. Nottingham police are conducting a thorough inquiry to determine the motive behind these shocking acts of violence and to ensure justice is served.
