12. Update on FAAN Relocation to Lagos Provided by Federal Government

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has confirmed the government’s choice to move the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) headquarters from Abuja to Lagos.

Amid opposition from different political figures and northern groups, Keyamo declared this on Wednesday during Channels Television’s Politics Today show.

Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South and various other northern entities such as the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and Northern Elders Forum (NEF), are opposed to the relocation, believing that it is an act of marginalization against their region.

Keyamo maintained that the relocation is necessitated by the desire to conform to contemporary economic and operational standards, notwithstanding these apprehensions.

Keyamo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria as well, emphasized that relocating FAAN’s headquarters to Lagos serves as a tactical move targeted at preserving an approximate half billion naira yearly for the Nigerian government and its citizens.

The reduced expenses on airfare for FAAN officials traveling between Lagos and Abuja for official duties are the reason behind this cost-saving.

The decision to relocate was disclosed by the minister, who cited recommendations from both high-ranking FAAN officials and aviation unions as influential factors. They contended that this shift would notably improve operational efficiency.
