Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development has stated that despite the backlash regarding relocating Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria’s headquarters from Abuja to Lagos, it is a decision that will not be reversed.
On Wednesday, the minister made an appearance on Politics Today, a programme broadcasted by Channels TV.
According to FRESHREPORTERS NEWS, the initiatives have received opposition from Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South and leaders belonging to Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Northern Elders Forum (NEF), as well as several other northern factions.
Their perspective is that the move of FAAN headquarters and select departments within the Central Bank of Nigeria to Lagos was a deliberate effort to discriminate against Northern regions.
Addressing the controversy at hand, Keyamo stated plainly that they have decided to proceed as planned since the necessary instructions had already been issued.
According to Keyamo, the problem was exacerbated by FAAN’s lack of digitization. As a result, they spent five hundred million naira on air travel between Lagos and Abuja in just one year.
“You see them flying every day to and fro Abuja to get one file signed. They fly every day, back and forth. In one year, they spent close to half a billion naira on flight tickets. N450 million on flight tickets alone,” he said…[CONTINUE READING HERE]>>
