Tinubu lifts ‘no work, no pay rule’ instituted against Doctors

Strike: Tinubu Waives ‘No Work, No Pay’ Order For National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD)

President Bola Tinubu has given the green light to cancel the “No Work, No Pay” rule imposed on striking members of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).

This rule was put in place on August 1, 2023, when the doctors went on strike starting from July 26, 2023.

The President’s decision was announced in a statement released by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, titled ‘President Tinubu Approves Waiver of the ‘No Work No Pay’ Order on Resident Doctors’.

The statement explained that the President used a special power called the Presidential Prerogative of Mercy.

Here’s the scoop: After some positive talks between the Federal Government and the NARD, the Resident Doctors ended their strike on August 12, 2023.

During those 17 days of striking, the government told the Accountant General of the Federation to hold back the salaries of the striking doctors.

But now, since the terms that were agreed upon during the discussions have been followed, President Bola Tinubu has said, “Okay, you can have your salaries back.” The President did make one condition, though.

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment must make sure there’s an official agreement in place, so this special exception won’t happen again for the National Association of Resident Doctors or any other health worker unions…[CONTINUE READING HERE]>>
