President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival as a powerful testament to Nigeria’s improving security and the dividends of sustained investment in peace.
In a personal reflection from Argungu, Kebbi State, the President wrote, “Today in Argungu, I witnessed more than a festival. I witnessed a people reclaiming their peace.” He described the event as clear evidence that stability is gradually returning and normalcy taking root across the region.
Over 50,000 fishermen gathered at the Matan Fada River, where culture flourished, competition thrived, and communities celebrated without fear.
Tinubu, who attended as Special Guest of Honour at the UNESCO-recognised event, earlier inaugurated several projects led by Governor Nasir Idris before joining thousands at the historic river for the world-renowned fishing competition and cultural display.
His remarks have resonated widely online, with many interpreting the massive turnout and calm atmosphere as a strong indicator of renewed hope in northern Nigeria and beyond. The festival’s success is being hailed as a vote of confidence in ongoing efforts to restore peace and harness economic potential through culture, tourism, and agriculture.
