The management of UMYU has expelled 57 students for exam malpractice

The Senate of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina, has approved the expulsion of 57 students for their involvement in various forms of examination malpractice.

The decision was made during the institution’s 125th Regular Senate Meeting, following a thorough review of recommendations submitted by the University Central Examination Misconduct Committee (UCEMC).

In a statement released on Saturday, August 2, 2025, by Fatima Sanda, Head of Information and Protocol, the university confirmed that investigations were conducted across multiple faculties before arriving at the sanctions.

Apart from the expulsions, five students were rusticated for two semesters covering the 2024/2025 academic session, and their affected exam papers were cancelled.

Additionally, two students were issued official written warnings, which will remain on their academic records.

The university stressed that these disciplinary actions demonstrate its firm stance on upholding academic integrity and are meant to deter future misconduct. UMYU urged students to avoid malpractice and strictly adhere to academic rules.
