Supreme Court Validates Adeleke’s victory as Osun governor

  • The Supreme Court affirmed Ademola Adeleke’s victory as the Governor of Osun State.
  • The appellate court had earlier confirmed Adeleke’s win and overturned the tribunal’s ruling that invalidated his victory.
  • Adegboyega Oyetola’s petition to challenge Adeleke’s win was dismissed.

In a significant turn of events, the Supreme Court of Nigeria, based in Abuja, upheld the election of Ademola Adeleke, who belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the Governor of Osun State.

This judgement comes after the earlier decision of a three-member panel of the appellate court led by Mohammed Shuaibu, who confirmed Adeleke’s win and nullified the election petition tribunal’s ruling that annulled his victory.

The tribunal had revoked the governor’s triumph in January of this year.

Adegboyega Oyetola, the previous governor of the state, had submitted a petition to challenge Adeleke’s win.

However, the apex court’s decision finally settled the dispute in Adeleke’s favor, giving him the mandate to continue as Osun State’s Governor.
