Singer Iyanya Admits to “Strûggling” with Celibacy, Says Marriage Isn’t a Focus

Nigerian singer Iyanya has opened up about the challenges of his celibacy journey, confessing that staying committed has been a difficult and fluctuating process.

During an appearance on the Afropolitan podcast, the 39-year-old artist stated that his dedication “goes up and down,” particularly when he encounters someone he is attracted to. He admitted that moments of weakness occasionally break his resolve, leading to regret and a longing for the discipline he aimed to uphold.

Iyanya explained that while he strives for consistency, real-world interactions often test his commitment. After a lapse, he finds himself reflecting and wishing he had remained steadfast.

The singer also clarified his perspective on relationships, emphasising that marriage is not a current priority. He described himself as being on a personal path of healing. When meeting new people, he opts for direct honesty, clearly communicating that he is not in an emotional space for a serious commitment rather than making promises he cannot keep.

This approach, he said, helps prevent him from misleading others, as he prefers to be transparent about his intentions from the outset rather than risk playing with someone’s emotions.
