Actress and singer Keke Palmer has expressed a strong desire to maintain her independence within romantic partnerships, stating she would not want to cohabitate with a partner even if they were married.
The 32-year-old star shared this view during an appearance on NBC’s Today show on Monday, February 2, while promoting her Peacock series The ‘Burbs.
The discussion stemmed from a conversation about modern dating trends, where people address major life topics like marriage and children on initial dates. Palmer endorsed the approach, saying it quickly reveals genuine compatibility. “I think that’s actually good. Just get it out of the way,” she remarked.
During a lighthearted role-play of a first date, co-host Jenna Bush Hager asked if Palmer wanted children. While Palmer is already a mother to her two-year-old son, Leodis, she set a clear boundary about living arrangements. “I could be open, but one thing you need to know is I never want to live together. I like my alone time,” she stated frankly.
Palmer cited Whoopi Goldberg’s famous sentiment”I don’t want nobody in my house” as one she strongly relates to. “Married, even,” she added.
She proposed alternative setups for a committed relationship, such as living in separate houses nearby, on the same property, or at the very least, having separate bedrooms. “At best, separate rooms,” she said.
Palmer humorously added that she wouldn’t want to share a bathroom, believing that maintaining separate spaces keeps the relationship fresh. “I want to go over to my man’s house,” she joked. “Over there, hi husband!”
