Akpabio Orders Hospitals to Stock Anti-Venom Nationwide After Singer’s Snakebite Déath

The President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has issued a directive for all hospitals across the country to stock anti-venom, following the tragic death of a young singer, Ifunanya, from a snakebite in Abuja.

Akpabio gave the order during a Senate plenary session, addressing growing concerns about the widespread unavailability of the life-saving treatment in Nigerian health facilities.

He called on the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to urgently prioritise the procurement, quality testing, storage, and nationwide distribution of safe, effective, and affordable anti-venom.

The singer’s death has triggered public anger and renewed demands for immediate improvements in the country’s emergency medical readiness, especially regarding access to essential antidotes like snake anti-venom.
