Saudi Hajj Portal Shutdown Puts Hundreds of Nigerian Pilgrims at Risk of Missing 2026 Hajj

The closure of Saudi Arabia’s official Hajj portal for new registrations has placed hundreds of Nigerian pilgrims nominated through state governments at risk of missing the 2026 pilgrimage.

Sources indicate that many state-sponsored pilgrims who had already made deposits and completed initial registration steps are now unable to secure slots within the quota allocation.

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and various state Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards have confirmed they are in urgent discussions with Saudi authorities and the Nigerian Embassy in Riyadh, seeking either an extension or alternative arrangements.

Pilgrims and their families have taken to social media to express anxiety, frustration, and financial worry, calling on the government to intervene swiftly to prevent the loss of deposits or outright exclusion from this year’s Hajj.

The development follows the recent announcement of the 2026 Hajj dates and quotas, reigniting concerns over Nigeria’s Hajj management systems and communication gaps with Saudi officials.

NAHCON is expected to release an official statement soon as affected pilgrims await clarity on whether the portal might reopen or special accommodations will be made.
