At least 26 Rivers Lawmakers withdraw impeachment notice against Fubara

The Rivers State lawmakers who switched sides from the PDP to the APC have dropped their plan to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

These lawmakers, thought to be aligned with former Governor Nyesom Wike, made the move at their Wednesday session, December 20th.

They claim their decision follows a deal reached at a meeting in Abuja on Monday with President Bola Tinubu, aimed at resolving the political turmoil in Rivers State. They also said it’s a show of respect for the President.

Freshreporters News had previously reported, that recent weeks have seen a major political clash between ex-Governor Wike and his successor, Fubara.

This fight led to rival House of Assembly meetings, an impeachment attempt against Fubara, the demolition of the Assembly building, and several pro-Wike commissioners resigning from the Governor’s team.

President Tinubu, hoping to heal the rift between Wike and Fubara, brought them together with former Governor Peter Odili for a discussion.

After a three-hour meeting at the Aso Villa in Abuja, a truce was reached.
