Rivers Assembly Takes Action: Writes Fubara, Alleges Gross Misconduct

The Rivers state House of Assembly has taken a bold stand by accusing Governor Siminalayi Fubara of grave wrongdoing with regard to recent appointments.

The letter which was sighted by reporters was personally signed by Speaker Martin Amaewhule.

The legislators claim in the letter that Governor Fubara broke the law when he appointed three people to important parastatals recently.

Governor Fubara has been expressly instructed by the assembly to cancel these nominations as soon as possible.

The Rivers House of Assembly’s letter cites particular provisions of the Constitution to support its allegations against Governor Fubara.

It states that Mr. Tonte Davies was named Acting Administrator of the New Cities Development Authority, Dr. Mrs. Ine Briggs was named Acting Director-General of the Bureau for Public Procurement, and Mr. Goodlife Ben was appointed Acting Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission.

The main charge against these appointments is that they were created outside of the legal parameters that apply to them.

This led the Rivers State Assembly to demand that the appointments be immediately revoked in compliance with the law.

“These appointments are in violation of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and and therefore constitute a gross misconduct and abuse of power on your part.
