A 37-member Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage, chaired by former Federation Head of Civil Service Bukar Aji, was formally inaugurated by Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
The much awaited event, which took place in the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, represented a major advancement in the process of proposing a new national minimum wage for the nation.
Vice President Shettima reaffirmed in his speech the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerian workers.
He asked the committee to engage in good-faith collective bargaining and stressed the value of sincere communication.
Senator Shettima emphasized the importance of the committee’s report submission, disclosing that President Tinubu has instructed Wale Edun, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, to give the committee with the required logistics to guarantee that the assignment is completed on time.
The committee’s recommendations are expected to be submitted to the National Assembly as an Executive Bill.
