Reactions Sparks Tinubu’s ‘Empty Budget Box’ Presentation To National Assembly

A dispute has arisen over President Bola Tinubu’s 2024 budget address to the National Assembly, with some accusing him of submitting an empty budget box.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2024 budget presentation to the National Assembly has ignited fresh controversy online. Tinubu, who urged lawmakers to pass the budget within 30 days, presented the document during a joint session.

A lawmaker from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Yusuf Shitu Galambi, accused President Bola Tinubu of deceiving the National Assembly.

Galambi claimed that Tinubu presented an empty sectoral allocation breakdown box, suggesting that although Tinubu read his budget speech, the actual budget statement was not in the box.

However, Ado Alhassan Doguwa, the Northern Caucus chairman in the House of Representatives, refuted these claims in a statement titled “Stop the Misrepresentation of Facts: We Did Not Receive Empty 2024 Budget Box from President Tinubu.”

Doguwa explained that the President had submitted a flash drive containing the entire budget before the joint chambers presentation.

He dismissed the speculation as unfounded, attributing it to mischief makers and opposition members who criticize the government without reasonable cause.

In a follow-up action to the controversy, Jaafar Jaafar, the publisher of Daily Nigerian, shared insights from a senator he spoke to after the budget presentation.
