Protester In U.S Sets Self On F!re Outside Israeli Consulate

A demonstrator is in critical condition after igniting themselves outside the Israeli embassy in Atlanta, United States, in a deed that law enforcement characterizes as an “extreme” political declaration.

Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum observed the presence of a Palestinian banner at the demonstration.

He expressed that the occurrence was “likely an extreme act of political protest.”

A security sentinel was also harmed while attempting to hinder the demonstrator, according to emergency responders.

“Both individuals sustained burns,” Atlanta Fire Chief Roderick Smith informed journalists.

The age or gender of the protester was not mentioned in the report.

“The security guard noticed that the individual was attempting to set themselves on fire” shortly after the protester arrived outside the consulate building around noon (1700 GMT), Smith said.

The guard “promptly attempted but failed to halt the individual.”

The guard suffered burns on his wrist and leg, Smith stated, while the protester was in critical condition with “full thickness” burns to their body. Both were transported to the hospital, he added.

“We actually have dedicated patrols that are occurring at this location and other Jewish and Muslim communities in the city,” Schierbaum added.

The United States has witnessed an increase in Anti-Semitic, anti-Arab, and Islamophobic threats and violence since the commencement of Israel’s conflict with Hamas in Gaza in October.
