Police Parades 4 Kidnappers, 14 Other Criminals In Niger State

In a press briefing held at the Police Command Headquarters in Lafia, Nasarawa State, the Police Public Relations Officer highlighted the achievements of the State Police Command in combating crime. The briefing revealed several successful operations resulting in the arrest of a total of 18 suspects involved in various criminal activities.

One notable arrest was that of Haruna Sunday, who had escaped from Kuje prison during an attack in 2022. Following a complaint of housebreaking and theft, diligent investigations led to his arrest. Sunday will be handed over to the Nigeria Correctional Service for further action.

Additionally, the Anti-cultism unit of the Command apprehended Joseph Anthony and Ardo Habu, suspected Indian hemp dealers. Four bags and twenty-four blocks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from them. The suspects will face charges in court upon completion of the investigation.

The State Police Command successfully intercepted suspected armed robbers and kidnappers who had set up a roadblock in Lily village, Nasarawa Eggon. Salah Wada was arrested during a gun duel and subsequently confessed to the crime. Further investigation led to the arrest of Abdulraman Ismaila and Yusuf Isah, both of whom confessed to engaging in kidnapping and armed robbery along the Nasarawa Eggon-Akwanga highway.

In another operation, four suspects—Ali Haliru, Umar Ekka, Danjuma Kaidu, and Salihu Gama—were apprehended for their involvement in a criminal conspiracy and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms. The police seized the sum of nine hundred thousand naira meant for purchasing an AK47 rifle from the suspects.

The State Police Command also successfully captured Ibrahim Yakubu and Osama Yau, who were wanted for several offenses, including armed robbery. The suspects were implicated in the killing of Jibrin Mohammed Sani during an attack in Galle, Nasarawa Eggon. A locally fabricated pistol was recovered from them.

Furthermore, Agbo Orobo, Abubakar Jafaru, and Yahaya Yuhayailu were arrested along Agwatashi road, Obi LGA. They were found in possession of an AK47 rifle, which they had acquired during a communal clash in 2013 and had been using for criminal activities.

The Police, in collaboration with the military and vigilante groups, apprehended Abubakar Isa for suspected kidnapping and recovered a locally fabricated revolver gun from him. Isa confessed to obtaining the weapon from his principal, who hired him for cattle rearing and self-protection.

Lastly, Osama Garba and Nasiru Shuaibu were arrested in Keffi, and a search on them yielded a locally fabricated Beretta Pistol and three rounds of live ammunition.

The State Police Command assured the public of their continuous efforts to combat crime in the state and called on the public to support their endeavors. The Command emphasized the importance of cooperation between law enforcement and citizens in their shared goal of eradicating crime.
