During a Town Hall meeting on Thursday, the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, declared his choice for the presidency in the upcoming 2023 general election. Ortom stated that he supports Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), as his preferred choice. Ortom also disclosed that he is campaigning for Obi’s candidacy in his own state.

He stated that his endorsement of Obi stems from his belief that the former governor of Anambra State is mentally and physically equipped to revitalize the country and restore its functionality.
Ortom attended a Town Hall meeting with stakeholders from all 276 Council Wards of the state, where he was enthusiastically cheered on by attendees who chanted both his name and Obi’s.
Governor Ortom of Benue State expressed that it is now necessary for Nigerians to disregard political affiliations and allegiances and instead choose a qualified, capable, and pious leader who can rescue the nation from its current state of despair.
He said, “we have come to a time where we must leave out sentiments and save Nigeria by looking at individuals who can lead with the fear of God and provide gainful employment for the youths.
“We must, in this 2023, fashion a new Nigeria, Nigeria that will give the people equity, fairness, and justice.
“The PDP has failed Nigerians, APC has failed Nigerians, political parties have failed Nigerians, even Labour Party has failed Nigerians. We must therefore look at individuals, those people who can deliver.
“So, this is not about the party, I am not in Labour Party but I am working for Peter Obi. Peter Obi will make sure that we sleep with our two eyes closed. These unnecessary killings that are going on in our country will stop.
“I have chosen to support him. I appreciate you all for choosing Peter Obi. Of the three presidential candidates, Peter Obi has the character, and competence to lead Nigeria.”
Unfortunately, bad weather conditions prevented Peter Obi from attending the gathering in person, so he addressed the attendees virtually. Despite this setback, Obi expressed his gratitude to the people of Benue and Governor Ortom for their endorsement of his candidacy. He assured them that their support would not go to waste.
Obi went on to promise that if elected, he would work towards positive change in the state, ensuring that Benue would not remain stagnant under his administration.
