Some parents in Niger State have surrendered their children to the police after they allegedly killed a 10-year-old herder, Abubakar Lawal, and injured his companion, Umar, in Karaku community, Rafi Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun confirmed on Friday, August 16, that the minors — Aliyu (10), Abdullahi (6), Maryam (10), and Jika (4) — attacked the victims while they were returning from grazing sheep on August 11.
Aliyu reportedly struck the boys with a stick, leading to severe injuries. Lawal was later confirmed dead at Kagara General Hospital, while Umar is still receiving treatment.
The parents handed the suspects over to the police on August 14. Abiodun said the case, classified as suspected culpable homicide, is under investigation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for further action.
