Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed confidence that the 2023 general elections, scheduled for February 25th and March 11th, will proceed without disruption.
Despite concerns that the ongoing crisis caused by fuel scarcity and the shortage of new naira notes could result in a postponement of the elections, Obasanjo remains optimistic.
Obasanjo made these comments while hosting the Board of Trustees of the African Democratic Congress at his residence within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The ADC leaders were led by Chairman Dr. Mani Ibrahim Ahmed, National Chairman Prof. Ralph Nwosu, and former presidential candidate Chukwuka Monye.
He made it really clear that Nigeria is in a significant moment and called on Nigerians to approach the elections with the same level of seriousness seen in developed nations.
He hence urged all Nigerians to give their best efforts to ensure the elections take place successfully. He also emphasized that the world is now watching the 2023 elections in Nigeria, and as key stakeholders, Nigerians should play their part in ensuring their success.
He said:
“We are in an interesting period in Nigeria. In less than three weeks, we will be going to the polls; well, I hope nothing will intervene against that. In less than three weeks, we will be electing a leader that will pilot the affairs of Nigeria for the next four years from May.
“I have been in Togo, Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire from the beginning of the week; and they are as concerned about what happens in Nigeria as every Nigerian should be.
