A UK court has sentenced a 27-year-old Nigerian man, Daniel Odubanjo, to six years in prison for sexually assaulting two women on a train in Essex last November.
Odubanjo, from Clapham in south London, was convicted of false imprisonment and two counts of sexual assault for separate attacks on a 21-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl during a single train journey from Shenfield to Chelmsford.
According to evidence presented at Chelmsford Crown Court, the first attack involved the 21-year-old victim. Odubanjo forced his way into a locked train toilet after she opened the door, pushed her back inside, and assaulted her. He continued the attack even after she attempted to escape and scream for help, only releasing her when she lied about being 14 years old.
Minutes later, Odubanjo approached the teenage girl. After asking her inappropriate questions and exposing himself, he later sat beside her and assaulted her until a fellow passenger intervened to restrain him.
British Transport Police officers arrested Odubanjo when the train stopped at Hatfield Peverel station.
In addition to the prison sentence, the judge imposed a sexual harm prevention order. Odubanjo is also banned from being under the influence of alcohol or drugs while on public transport or railway property.
