Lagos Firefighters Pull 84-Year-Old Man from 140-Foot Well in Dramatic Rescue

Emergency responders in Lagos have rescued an octogenarian from a deep well in what authorities are investigating as a possible suicide attempt.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service executed the operation in the Aboru area after receiving a distress call on Thursday morning. According to Controller General Margaret Adeseye, the call came in at 10:09 a.m., and firefighters were dispatched immediately, arriving at the scene on Fadeyemi Street by 10:20 a.m.

The 84-year-old man was found trapped at the bottom of a well approximately 140 feet deep. Preliminary reports indicated that the well’s cover had been securely in place, leading officials to suspect the fall may have been intentional.

The rescue team successfully extricated the man alive. He was subsequently released to his family members for care and support as the investigation into the incident continues.
