A 40-year-old Nigerian man, Adedapo Adegbola, has confessed to murdering his 23-year-old former girlfriend, university student Steph Irons, following the end of their relationship.
The fatal attack took place on October 21 at the victim’s residence in Mapperley, Nottingham. The alarm was raised after Steph’s colleagues received a series of disturbing messages from her. Police responded to the call and discovered her body in the living room with fatal knife wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Adegbola fled immediately after the incident, leaving behind blood-stained evidence. He traveled through multiple locations before eventually turning himself in to the police.
At a hearing in Nottingham Crown Court, Adegbola entered a guilty plea to the charge of murder. The judge has ordered him to remain in custody while awaiting his formal sentencing, which is scheduled for February 5.
