Nigerian Group Condemns U.S. Military Strikes on Venezuela as “Imperialist Aggression”

The Venezuela Solidarity Campaign in Nigeria (VSCN) has strongly condemned reported U.S. military strikes against Venezuela, labeling them an act of “imperialist aggression” that violates international law.

In a joint statement signed by leaders of Nigerian civil society groups, the VSCN criticized the attacks as a violent attempt to crush a sovereign nation for resisting foreign domination and neoliberal control. The group expressed deep concern over the safety of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, stating that “targeting a sovereign state and its leadership through military force is… terrorism at the level of states.”

Rejecting claims that the action promotes democracy or human rights, the campaign argued it is driven by strategic and economic interests, particularly control over oil. They pointed to past U.S. interventions in countries like Iraq and Libya, which led to instability, as a precedent.

Connecting to Africa’s history, the VSCN stated that Nigerians recognize such patterns of foreign interference and stand with Venezuela’s right to self-determination. The group demanded an immediate end to U.S. military actions, transparency on President Maduro’s status, the lifting of sanctions, and international accountability.

They urged the Nigerian government, the African Union, and other Global South nations to oppose the strikes, warning that “silence in the face of aggression is complicity,” and called for global solidarity with Venezuela.
