Nigeria and Angola Sign Visa Waiver Deal for Diplomatic and Official Passport Holders

Nigeria and Angola have strengthened bilateral relations by signing a “Visa Waiver Agreement” for holders of Diplomatic and Official or Service Passports.

The agreement was signed on Sunday, February 15, 2026, on the sidelines of the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Under the new arrangement, citizens of both nations traveling on diplomatic or official passports will no longer need visas for official assignments, short visits, or transit. This is expected to ease diplomatic movement, enhance government-to-government collaboration, and facilitate high-level exchanges.

The signing underscores ongoing efforts by both countries to deepen political, economic, and cultural ties within the framework of the African Union and Agenda 2063. The waiver is anticipated to reduce administrative barriers for diplomats, senior officials, and delegations traveling between Abuja and Luanda.

The agreement comes as Nigeria participates actively in the AU Summit, with Vice President Kashim Shettima representing President Bola Tinubu.

Stakeholders have hailed the development as a practical step toward improving intra-African mobility and building mutual trust.

The pact adds to a growing list of visa liberalisation agreements Nigeria has pursued across the continent to foster regional integration and people-to-people connections.
