Niger State Gov’t Approves ₦300m For Tree Planting

The government led by Governor Mohammed Umar Bago in Niger State has allocated the amount of three hundred million (₦300,000,000) for afforestation in a section of the state.

Freshreporters News reports that while speaking on Friday during a Hybrid Technical Assistance Mission of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project in Minna, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Musa Salihu Bawa Bosso, pointed out that the project was part of the government’s endeavors to tackle the consequences of climate change.

He identified the ₦300m as a segment of the ₦900m counterparts’ funding that the state would contribute to the project.

According to him, Governor Bago’s administration is actively striving to rehabilitate the degraded lands and improve the quality of life for the people, especially at the grassroots level, by promoting agricultural activities in the state.

Bosso stressed that the state government acknowledges the importance and benefits of environmental preservation. Consequently, various kinds of trees and easily accessible fruit seedlings have been planted throughout the state.

Earlier, the national project coordinator, Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project, Abdulhamid Umar, praised the Niger State Government for authorizing the release of the sum of ₦900m as counterpart funding to aid investment in the ACReSAL project.
