Women and youths who staged protests Protesting have burnt down the Kafin-koro police divisional office in in Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State, following the killing of Isaac Achi, a Catholic priest, of Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church, on Sunday.
One Jonathan narrated the ordeal revealing that some women comprising ECWA and Catholic women groups converged on the premises of the burnt parish at around 7:00 a.m. early hour on Tuesday to offer prayers against those who burnt the Catholic priest to death.
Narrating the incident, Jonathan said, “As the women were praying, some policemen arrived that they were a detachment from the Kafin-koro Police Division drafted to the church to provide protection for the praying women.
“The women rejected the protection and requested that the police should leave because the police didn’t provide protection for the dead priest neither did they show up on time when they were called,” he said.
Jonathan added that at first, the police who stormed the residence refused to leave the late priest residence eventually did.
The community women were later joined by youths to hold a peaceful protest. Jonathan claimed that police shot in to the air to disperse the aggrieved protesters but a stray bullet hit one of the villager, who died instantly. The protest turned violent from there.
