A fire that broke out early Friday morning at 57 Azikiwe Street, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt, has destroyed goods and properties worth millions of naira.
The blaze, which began around 3 a.m., impacted a densely populated area of Rivers State.
As of 8 a.m., the fire was still active, consuming several rooms and shops within a large compound. A team from the state fire service arrived to combat the flames, but parts of the building proved difficult to access.
The fire reportedly destroyed seven large shops and eight rooms, including a liquor warehouse where over 50 crates of beer were lost.
The compound, which contains a total of 35 rooms across two sections, was at risk of more extensive damage before additional fire trucks and personnel were dispatched to the scene.
After a four-hour effort, the fire was eventually brought under control, though smoke was still visible in parts of the building.
The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
