The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken Kannywood actress Samha Inuwa into custody for the alleged abuse of the Nigerian currency.
The anti-graft agency announced the arrest in a statement on its official Facebook page on Tuesday, sharing a photo of the actress holding a placard describing the accusation.
According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, Inuwa was apprehended by operatives from the commission’s Kano Zonal Directorate. The arrest followed a widely circulated video that allegedly shows her using naira notes to clean mucus from her nose.
“The Kano Zonal Directorate of the EFCC on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, arrested a Kannywood star, Samha Inuwa, over alleged naira mutilation,” the statement read.
The EFCC stated that investigations are in progress and confirmed that the actress will be prosecuted once the inquiry is completed.
The commission noted that this action is part of its ongoing enforcement of Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act of 2007, which criminalizes the abuse, mutilation, or improper treatment of the naira.
