JAPA: If You Earn Well in Nigeria, Stay Rather Than Move to the UK for a Job You’ll Hate — DJ DSF

Media personality DJ DSF has offered a candid perspective on working abroad, advising that a well-paying job in Nigeria may be preferable to a low-satisfaction role overseas.

During a podcast appearance, she remarked, “People think you’re abroad and you’re making pounds. They could be abroad doing a cleaner job, making however much per hour. You probably have better opportunities here in Nigeria.” She emphasized that financial comfort at home could outweigh the appeal of a disliked job abroad.

DJ DSF highlighted the high living expenses in the UK, noting the significant costs of rent and public transport. “Before you even make your salary, let’s say you’re doing cleaner work or driving a taxi,” she added.

Sharing her father’s experience, she explained, “When my dad first went, he was a taxi driver… He was working 9 to 5, then 5 to 9… just to make a little money.”

She acknowledged that earning in pounds can be attractive but stressed the reality of the hustle required: “I get it, like if you make it in the UK it’s great… but it’s not like that you really have to hustle to build your way up.”
