The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has taken former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, into custody for questioning over allegations of financial impropriety totalling over ₦580 billion during his eight-year tenure.
El-Rufai reported to the anti-graft agency on February 18, 2026, and was subsequently held at its headquarters in Abuja for further interrogation following preliminary inquiries.
According to sources, the former governor arrived voluntarily but was not released after initial questioning.
His media team has characterised the detention as politically motivated, while the ICPC insists its actions are grounded in intelligence findings and forensic examinations of Kaduna State audit reports and whistleblower submissions.
The arrest is part of ongoing anti-corruption investigations involving former public officials.
