Alhaji Alhaji Umaru Abubakar Nyala, chief of Pupule village in Yoro, who is a traditional leader in Taraba State, has reportedly been kidnapped by some armed men.
Freshhreporters News learned that the bandits also took a pregnant woman captive during the raid.
Two police officers from the village were also reportedly abducted.
Insiders say the attackers hit Pupule around 2:00 am on Tuesday.
Gunfire went wild, sparking panic and stopping any quick fightback.
A villager spoke of their growing fear, saying, “This is the third kidnapping here in less than six months. Things are getting bad.”
Police spokesperson Usman Abdullahi confirmed the news, stating, “It’s true that a local leader and fifteen others have been grabbed.”
“Two police officers were among those taken – an inspector and a sergeant, both living in the village.”
Abdullahi said authorities are stepping up efforts to find the kidnappers.
He explained that the police have sent a mix of special forces, anti-kidnapping units, local guards, and experienced trackers to the area to rescue the captives and bring peace back to the troubled village.
