Security forces have apprehended a suspected member of the Boko Haram terrorist group near a residential estate in Kuchibuyi, Kubwa area of Abuja.
A confidential source confirmed the arrest to SaharaReporters on Saturday morning. The suspect confessed to fleeing the Sambisa Forest and wandering the area for an unknown period.
“He was taken into custody on Friday near an estate in Kuchibuyi. Local vigilantes apprehended him, tied him up, and brought him to the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja. Earlier, some AK-47 rifles and ammunition used by estate security guards had gone missing. We suspect possible . The Boko Haram suspect is currently being questioned,” the DSS source revealed.
Freshreporters News learned that the residents of Grow Homes Estate, located along Kuchibiyi, have reportedly endured repeated attacks from armed kidnappers suspected to be terrorists with no fewer than three (3) kidnapings carried out.
“One resident who was released after weeks in captivity died shortly after returning home due to the trauma,” an estate association executive disclosed to SaharaReporters.
Previously, on October 28th, it was reported the kidnapping of at least three residents from Grow Homes Estate.
The gunmen reportedly used a bush track connecting the community to another village to escape.
A security source at the estate recounted the incident: “Around 9pm on Thursday, we (vigilantes) heard gunshots. We joined forces with some Nigeria Mobile Police (MOPOL) officers and searched the area for the source.
“One of our members, who had been shot in the hand, informed us that there were over 20 kidnappers. We heard more gunshots directed at us, and the officers returned fire.
“Due to their overwhelming numbers, we were forced to halt the counter-attack. They abducted three people: a couple and another man. We haven’t heard from the kidnappers yet.”
Another resident reported that the attackers disabled the alarm systems in the targeted houses before abducting their victims.
In March, gunmen raided the same estate and abducted at least nine individuals.
